London faces a Tier 3 blockade “in two weeks”-because No10 plans a tougher Tier 4
London leaders believe the capital will face a Tier 3 blockade in just two weeks. Coronavirus The number of cases will increase rapidly.
Allies Sadiq Khan The 9 million capital is “very likely” to hit the strictest limits in two weeks, he said.
West Midlands leaders yesterday said they believe they will face Tier 3 soon next week, but Tier 3 negotiations with most of the northeast are still underway.
By next week, 11 million people will be under the strictest rules in the UK-unless they can operate as a restaurant, they will close bars and pubs and impose restrictions on travel and gatherings.
And 32.6 million people will be placed under Tier 2 or Tier 3 rules, creating critics to brand the semi-national blockade by stealth.
But scientists warn that the current expansion of Tier 3 is still not enough to fight the virus.
Tory ministers have rejected the call to impose a full-scale national blockade like France. However, they are considering moving more areas to Tier 3 and have not ruled out the new, more stringent Tier 4.
According to media reports, No10 is considering Tier 4, which is open only to schools and essential shops.
Alien secretary Dominic Raab Refused to rule out today’s drastic plans.
He told the BBC: “We are ready for further steps we can take at any time
“But I think the most important thing in further action is getting on track to target the virus.”
According to a survey by Imperial College London yesterday, the “R” was 1.56 nationwide and 2.86 in London, much higher than the official figures.
London health officials are understood to still be working from the capital’s “official” R-1.1-1.3-, but have been blinded by research.
There is still no lively discussion between Mayor Sadiq Khan and the government on the transition to Tier 3.
However, one of the mayor’s allies predicts that “the situation (increasing number of cases, increasing hospitalization) is very likely that London will enter Tier 3 within a few weeks.”
Kahn is still pushing for a short nationwide blockade of “circuit breakers,” but sources say Tier 3 is “very likely” if that doesn’t happen.
That was after a significant expansion of Tier 3 rules this week after intense discussions with North and Midland leaders.
Recently, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Warrington have all been added to the Tier 3 list.
Tier 3 restrictions prohibit residents from meeting with family members or anyone other than the bubble, indoors, in the garden, or in the beer garden.
Meetings in open spaces such as parks are only allowed within the limits of six rules-or those that fall under a workplace-like exemption.
Tier 3 residents are also advised not to move or stay in or out of the area unless strictly required.
An interim analysis by Imperial College London, which collected data from October 16th to 25th, suggested that there were approximately 96,000 new infections per day.
In London, Southeast, East England, and Southwest, R numbers were estimated to be above 2 even though none of these regions were included in Tier 3.
The study’s author, Professor Stephen Riley, said that “current measures are inadequate” and that “some national policies will have real benefits.”
He told the BBC: “We were able to prevent the pattern of the south from changing to the current pattern of the north and bring about a reversal of the north as soon as possible.
“If you decide to use the limits introduced elsewhere in Europe today and yesterday, you need to think about the timing. These limits are good sooner or later.
“Change is needed. The growth rates seen in these data are so fast that some form of change is needed before Christmas.”
Mr. Rab argued today that a full-scale blockade was inevitable, despite calling for a full-scale blockade.
He told the BBC: “I don’t think it’s correct, but we’re being guided by the percentage of viruses.
“Since we started implementing this step-by-step approach, there has been some evidence that the rate of increase has slowed.”
