Coronavirus NHS nurse, 23, dies after treating patient with deadly virus

A 23-year-old NHS nurse treating a coronavirus patient has died.

John Alagos is considered to be the third youngest nurse to be the victim of Covid-19.

He returned home from work at Watford Hospital after a night shift on Friday night.

He said he was suffering from headaches and high temperatures.

Talk to Sunday MailSaid his mother, Mrs. Gustillo: “I said, ‘Why didn’t you go home? He asked other staff, they said, He said he didn’t.

“I said, ‘OK, take Paracetamol.’ A few minutes later, I found him blue in bed.”

When her son was found unconscious in her bedroom, she called 999, but rescue workers were sadly unable to revive him.

John was treating high risk at Watford General Hospital, but declared a “serious incident” last night and shut down the A & E department due to a problem with oxygen supply.

Mrs. Gustillo says that John’s colleagues told her she was not wearing “suitable” protective clothing.

“They wear PPE, but they don’t completely protect their mouths. They wear regular masks,” she says.

Last night, Watford General Hospital in a statement said:

“Our staff is fully informed about the symptoms of Covid-19, and if they show these symptoms or are actually sick in any way, it is unlikely that anyone will stay at work. Never.

“We have always kept our staff up to date with the latest PPE guidance so that they can ensure an adequate level of protection.”

A spokeswoman added: “John is very popular and will be overlooked.”

Mrs Gustillo stated that John had no underlying medical condition.
