The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture has ordered the slaughter of approximately 215,000 chickens after a highly infectious strain of bird flu was detected on a farm near the German border.
The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture announced on Thursday that bird flu was found at a poultry farm in the eastern town of Puiflijk.
To prevent the spread of the virus, the government ordered the selection of about 215,000 birds. This includes approximately 100,000 laying hens on the farm where the infection was found and 115,000 hens at another nearby facility.
The selection will be carried out by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority and will be completed as soon as possible.
This is the second time an outbreak has been detected in the Netherlands in a few weeks. Last week, a case was diagnosed on an Alzforst farm and a little less than 36,000 birds were disposed of. Poultry infected with pie fried is 3 km from Alzforst.

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that the risk of transmission to humans is low, “Cannot be excluded.” This particular strain has so far not infected any human in the world.
Some strains of bird flu can be particularly dangerous to humans. WHO believes that H5N1 mortality is about 60%, but there is no evidence that eating cooked poultry can transmit the disease.
