A tragic video shows the reality of a Covid-19 care home ban

The great great-grandmother asks Tracy to “enter” and move with her hands, and her daughter replies, “I can’t enter, we still allow for that nasty bug. Not”.

The two mothers, Tracy, described the moment as “painful” and said they had released a video in an attempt to change the “unhealthy” rules of care home visits.

“When my mom comes out, I just want to hug her and turn her arms around, but I want to do the same.

“She doesn’t understand why we can’t because of her dementia. That’s what you can see in the video-she wants me to go inside.

“It’s painful to see her react that way. I feel exactly like her. I want to come in and hug her.”

Tracy continued. “My mother had lived her life before. She always went out, danced, met her family and had a good time. Now everything is gone.

“She is like a prisoner in her own house.”

Tracy captured the clip outside the Bialy Court Care Home Bradford, October 29th.

She “loves” the house itself and the staff there, but said “there is a problem with the system.”

“I want to go to my mother’s house and show her that she hasn’t forgotten about her and that she still loves her,” Tracy added.

Her idea is to ask at least one family member to test for the virus and allow that family member to enter the house and meet a loved one.

Tracy said: “I think it’s the best way to avoid this. Somehow I need to start seeing the elderly again.

“I don’t know why I can’t do it if the workers in these care facilities can get in after taking the test.

“I understand that safety is paramount, but at the same time we need to balance.

“My mother is getting worse rapidly. She doesn’t fully understand why, but she’s very depressed and worried about what’s going on.”

Tracy said he supported a residents’ rights campaign trying to allow residents of nursing homes to visit with their families.

She added that she initially shot the video so that she could send it to her family to watch Doreen, but she decided to share it after seeing her mother’s reaction.

The window meeting between Tracy and Doreen, who was at home two years ago, was the first meeting since August.

“She loves to go out and have fun.”

After the first blockade, they were allowed to visit the yard, but since August she has only been able to see Doreen in the care home parking lot and video calls.

Tracy said: “We are now facing another blockade, so no one knows when we can see each other correctly.

“Something needs to change.”

The Bradford Council today announced that it will send new guidance to care homes throughout the district to begin helping close family and friends visit residents safely.

It follows the government’s announcement that visits can be resumed within the period of national restrictions, as long staff and residents can be protected from the risk of infection.

Prior to the announcement, the council created new guidance for external visits with care home managers.

They also plan to send guidance for visiting the care facility within a few days.

Guidance provides advice on how care homes can safely implement alternative forms of visit, such as creating visit pods, garden visits, meetings through windows and Perspecs barriers, and drive-through visits.

Visits to long-term care facilities were previously limited to exceptional situations, but with new guidance sent today, long-term care facility residents will meet their loved ones more often, initially outdoors. It is hoped that you will have the opportunity.

All care homes differ in terms of facilities, landscape and care provided. These additional visit options will only be made if appropriate risk assessments have been performed to ensure the safety of all residents.

Therefore, the top priority must be to maintain infection prevention in care homes. At the same time, we all know that being able to offer more visits can help improve the mental health and well-being of everyone.

“That’s why we’ve been working hard with long-term care facilities lately to find out how to safely implement them. Government policies have been updated so we can put them into action. . ”
