A strain of bird flu was discovered in the Limerick falcon that forced European countries to eliminate hundreds of thousands of birds.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has confirmed that the H5N8 strain of bird flu has been found in wild birds in Limerick.

The results of these tests will not be available until late next week, the ministry said.
Since human infections with this virus have not been reported worldwide, the risk to humans is considered to be very low, the Health Protection Monitoring Center said.
