Health officials said that in Lake County, 756 cases of coronavirus-positive deaths occurred on Sunday and 14 people died throughout the county. Health officials are calling on residents to step up their efforts to stay at home, wash their hands and maintain a safe social distance as the virus is expected to peak in Illinois in the coming weeks.

“We have been in place for two weeks since the governor’s stay at home and have been enacted to delay the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible,” said Mark Pfister, director of the Lake County Health Department. “These weeks have been crucial for all Lake County residents to play their part. The virus spreads primarily through close interaction with others. Relaxing social distance results in more illness and death. “
