Two Thunder Bay stores closed due to declaration of COVID-19 outbreak
Two cases of COVID-19 were confirmed to affect outlets operated by Adult & Teen Challenge, and close contact was confirmed.
Thunder Bay – Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, two Thunder Bay stores operated by Adult & Teen Challenge in Central Canada have been temporarily closed.
Two individuals involved in the organization’s men’s and women’s centers tested positive for COVID-19, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced on social media on Sunday. The health unit did not identify whether the incident involved residents or staff.
Some other individuals associated with the facility were considered possible cases and are currently in quarantine, the health unit said.
Centers on Johnson Avenue and Syndicate Avenue provide residents with long-term addiction recovery support. These are supported by companies run by the Johnson Super Thrift Store and the Christmas Store on North Cumberland Street.
Health units said these projects would be closed “as a precautionary measure” while public health officials continued to investigate the outbreak.
However, the agency said it has not yet identified a close relationship with recently visited customers.
“At this time, customers who visit one of our stores before they close are not considered to be at high risk of being exposed to COVID-19,” he said.
Robby Ahuja, director of the Adult & Teen Challenge in northwestern Ontario, said the organization will instruct residents to quarantine at the center and modify programming that would normally take place elsewhere so that it can be delivered onsite. Said that.
He said the closure of the business would only exacerbate the financial blow that the organization had already suffered due to the pandemic.
“We rely heavily on some small businesses,” he said. “We had already had to cancel a large fundraising dinner. Now that we have to close the store for at least a week, that has a huge impact on our finances.”
