SIPH recommends influenza vaccine in COVID-19 pandemic
Pocatello, Idaho (KIFI / KIDK)-In 2020, the flu season has arrived, as if we couldn’t afford to worry.
The Department of Public Health in Southeastern Idaho recommends that you and your loved ones be vaccinated against this year’s flu vaccine, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
Each year, the influenza vaccine is updated for the circulating influenza virus. Influenza vaccines usually protect against three or four viruses that studies have suggested to be the most common during the flu season.

Also, people currently infected with COVID-19 are not recommended to be vaccinated against influenza. You can get the flu vaccine after you meet the criteria for stopping quarantine.
A previous flu infection does not prevent you from being re-infected with either virus. For this reason, SIPH recommends that everyone be vaccinated against the flu each year.
This season’s flu vaccine will also help the healthcare system by reducing the potential burden that COVID-19 and flu can put on local hospitals. The flu vaccine is the best defense against influenza. When combined with a flu shot, anyone can take the following precautions daily:
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Stay home if sick
- Cover coughing and sneezing

- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth
- Cleans and disinfects surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with viruses
