Arizona reports 2,383 new COVID-19 cases and 2 more deaths
Phoenix (AP) — Arizona health officials reported 2,383 new COVID-19 cases and two more deaths on Sunday.
After recording 3,015 cases on Friday and 3,476 cases on Saturday, it is the first time in three days that the number of new cases in the state is less than 3,000. There were 3,434 cases reported on Tuesday.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the latest number has risen to 275,436 cases across the state, killing 6,302 people, according to officials from the Arizona Department of Health.
Arizona outbreaks bottomed out in September, but are steadily increasing from October to November.
Health officials say the recent increase is due to factors such as the reopening of businesses and schools, and public fatigue from preventative measures such as masking.
Warning that the situation could be exacerbated by Thanksgiving family gatherings and other social gatherings, authorities recommend gathering outside households living together. They also continue to wear masks in public, practice social distance, wash their hands frequently, and encourage people to stay home when ill.
The number of infections is thought to be much higher because many people have not been tested, and studies show that people can get the virus without feeling sick.
