Consumer Voice: Free Memory Screening During Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month | Local News
November is Alzheimer’s disease awareness month. According to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation (AFA), Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. It currently affects more than 5.8 million Americans, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that it could grow to 14 million by 2060.
The AFA recommends that you undergo memory screening if you experience frequent amnesia that affects your daily life, such as time and place confusion. Other common symptoms include struggling to complete familiar tasks, having trouble following or starting a conversation, repeatedly placing items in non-affiliated locations, and mood changes.
Since November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, AFA offers free memory screening every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Screening is virtual and can be done in English or Spanish. Call 866-232-8484 to make an appointment. There are no minimum age or insurance requirements. All you need is a computer with a camera, a smartphone, or a tablet.
