State health officials have reported more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 for the fifth time in six days, as respiratory virus epidemics have reached levels that have not been seen since summer.
Health officials in South Carolina reported on Sunday 1,339 new confirmed cases and 10 possible cases of the new coronavirus, and two additional confirmed deaths.
Laurens County added 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Greenwood County recorded 13 cases, Abbeyville County recorded 2 cases, and Saluda County recorded 1 case. No new cases have been reported in McCormick County.
This brings the number of confirmed cases in South Carolina to 184,360, the estimated number of cases to 11,147, the number of confirmed deaths to 3,846, and perhaps the number of deaths to 266.
Over 75% of hospital beds are filled throughout the state, and 752 (8.8%) of patients are treated for COVID-19. Of these, 192 patients are in the ICU and 86 are on mechanical ventilation.

A presumptive death certificate is an individual whose death certificate states that COVID-19 disease or SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of death or a significant condition that contributes to death, but has not undergone confirmatory viral testing. ..
