This unusual case was highlighted by Ahmed Maher Ali of Assiut University Children’s Hospital and the Pediatric Surgery Unit of his team.

Their report adds: “We present a newborn with a double penis and double scrotum as part of caudal duplication syndrome (CDS), a condition that involves duplication of the distal organs of the body.

“The cause of CDS is unknown, but many theories have tried to explain it, but the most accepted theory is that twins cannot be completely separated.

“CDS is a very rare condition and requires an interdisciplinary team to manage and requires gradual repairs.

“Most pediatricians and pediatric surgeons cannot diagnose it. We add cases of CDS to the literature.”

Rare symptoms

The baby weighed 5.5 pounds at birth and had double pinpoint urethral openings in his double penis, allowing him to urinate from both.
