Poll: 58% of Americans get the COVID-19 vaccine.That’s why some people say they don’t
The biggest reason why 37% of Gallup polls answered “no” was the fear of rushing vaccine development.
New Orleans — A third pharmaceutical company has embarked on the development of the COVID-19 vaccine.
AstraZeneca has completed the first two phases and is currently demanding urgent use of the vaccine. It claims to be up to 90% effective.
The company claims that its vaccines are cheaper and easier to distribute than vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna.
Currently, all of these companies are waiting for a panel of experts to complete a review of the exam. The panel weighs the benefits and risks of each vaccine and presents the findings to the Food and Drug Administration.
The public is also weighing benefits and risks, and a October poll from Gallup shows that 58% of Americans are ready to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
When asked while walking in New Orleans City Park, “I’m lined up first,” said Beth Rusky.
It leaves a 42% survey that they claim they don’t.
“I don’t have a wife,” said Anthony Anthony Johnson, who was also asked at City Park. “I couldn’t personally see what the vaccine does or what the vaccine contains, so I can’t just put it in my body.”

“I think speed is natural,” said Dr. Charles Stoecker, an assistant professor at Tulane School of Public Health.
Most vaccines can take at least five years to reach the market. Using new technology, these COVID vaccines were developed in less than a year. Stoecker said there was a good reason.
“This is a fast technology. It’s easier to develop these mRNA vaccines,” he said.
Twenty-six percent of those who answered “no” wanted to wait to confirm that the vaccine was safe.
“That’s a legitimate concern, and that’s why we have a system in place to address that concern,” Stoecker said, referring to the ongoing trial.
“For you and me, we don’t have to be as brave as those who volunteered for clinical trials,” he said.
According to the FDA, more than 30,000 people participate in each of these major vaccine trials.
“I think it will still take some time. The trials will continue to run through the approval process and there will be more time to document if there are any adverse events with these vaccines,” Stoker said.
Of those who answered “no”, 12% generally did not trust the vaccine.
“It’s a problematic group,” Stalker said.
He believes that vaccination is key to a sufficient number of people to achieve group immunity.
“Modelers know that the number of people who need immunity can be about 70 percent,” says Stoecker.
One of his concerns is distrust within the black community. It’s the shadow of the horrifying Tuskegee experiment. The presidents of Dillard and Xavier have announced that they have participated in a clinical trial of the COVID vaccine. Stoecker believes that such a move motivates vaccination.
“If Barack Obama gets it, I’ll get it,” Johnson said.
The first dose may be possible this year, but time may be the key to calming some of these fears.
To address another concern, the CDC said that none of the vaccines under development use the live virus that causes COVID-19, so it is unlikely to be transmitted from the shot.
