Italy’s coronavirus deaths increased by 853, making it the largest casualty since March 28
Rome (Reuters)-Italy reported 853 COVID 19-related deaths on Tuesday, a surge from 630 the day before, making it the highest daily casualty since March 28.
The Ministry of Health has also registered 23,232 new coronavirus infections. This is a slight increase from 22,930 on the previous day.
Compared to the previous 148,945, the number of coronavirus swabs performed in the past day was 188,659.
Italy was the first western country to be infected with the virus and has killed 51,306 COVID-19s since its outbreak in February. This is the second highest victim in Europe after the United Kingdom. In addition, 1,455,000 cases have been registered.
Italy’s daily death toll is the highest in Europe in recent days, but the increase in hospitalization and intensive care unit occupancy has slowed.
The number of COVID-19 inpatients on Tuesday was 3,4,577, a decrease of 120 from the previous day. That’s compared to the daily increase of 418 on Monday.
The number of intensive care units has increased by 6 following Monday’s increase of 9 to 3,816.
When the second wave of Italy accelerated rapidly in the first half of November, hospitalizations increased by about 1,000 per day and intensive care unit occupancy increased by about 100 per day.
The northern region of Lombardia, centered on Italy’s financial capital Milan, was the region that was hit hardest on Tuesday, with 4,886 new cases reported.
In the much less populated central region of Lazio around Rome, the second largest number of new cases occurred in 2,509.
