South Carolina surpassed 4,000 confirmed deaths associated with the coronavirus on Tuesday.
More than 20 new deaths were reported on Tuesday alone. A total of 303 deaths are being investigated by the SC Health and Environmental Administration.
The state is close to recording 200,000 confirmed cases of the virus.
A high percentage of daily tests return a positive COVID-19 result. This indicates that community infections of the virus are still widespread. Of the 10,407 tests conducted for Tuesday’s report, 13.2 percent returned positive.

Dead (number)
Of the 23 new deaths reported, one was a young adult patient aged 18-34 years. Five were middle-aged patients aged 35-64 and 17 were elderly patients aged 65 and over.
They lived in the counties of Florence, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Holly, Kershaw, Orangeburg, Richland, Spartanberg, and York.
Hospitalization
Of the 873 patients admitted with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, 211 received intensive care and 83 were on ventilator.

Authorities continue to urge South Carolina residents to take precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and other face coverings, increasing social distance, and frequent hand washing.
They also encourage anyone who believes they have been exposed to the virus or who has symptoms to be tested. DHEC advised that people in the community and those who cannot be socially separated should take a monthly test.
