A new study reveals that the coronavirus can continue to infect the surface for days by turning into a “pancake-like film.”
Most of the above respiratory droplets survive only a few seconds on the surface, while SARS-CoV-2 droplets have been shown to survive on some surfaces for several days.
Researchers at IIT Bombay are now analyzing the drying times of thin surface films to understand how the SARS-CoV-2 virus survives so long on some surfaces.

Based on the findings, researchers are urging the public to be careful to keep the surface clean.
Mr. Agrawal added: “Disinfection is desirable on frequently touched surfaces such as door handles and mobile devices, and in hospitals and other prone areas.
“It is also advisable to heat the surface, as it can help evaporate the nanometer membrane and destroy the virus, even at high temperatures for a short period of time above the ambient temperature.”
