Worcester swans can be lost as cases of bird flu increase in the UK
Our swans may be at risk of dying after a bird flu has been confirmed in the United Kingdom.
David Cash of Worcester Swan Rescue said about 25 Worcestershire swans had died.
He states: “The swan looked lethargic, didn’t want food, and coughed a lot. This is similar to Covid’s symptoms.”
However, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has not yet confirmed cases of bird flu in birds in Worcestershire.
Marilyn McCarthy of Worcester’s Swan Foods Project said: “Yesterday afternoon, all the swans between South Key and Digris looked lively, lively and healthy.
“There was a swan carcass in Evesham, but I haven’t heard if Defra confirmed it as the cause of bird flu.
“This bird flu strain has not been reported to affect humans. But be careful and maintain hygiene. Do not treat sick or dead waterfowl. Do not feed swans by hand. Please.
