What Britain’s Most Famous Doctors Say About Safe Christmas
The government has announced that restrictions on the coronavirus will be lifted across the UK from December 23 to December 27.
This move will allow up to three households to gather indoors, regardless of where you are or where you live in the UK.
Everyone can eat together or stay at each other’s house.
But scientists and doctors warn that a generous Christmas could help fuel the third wave of the coronavirus in January.
Guidance was given that people should avoid everything from hugging and singing to board games.
And some say people shouldn’t take advantage of relaxed rules at all-because they are vulnerable and at risk of killing older relatives.
mirror We talked to some of the UK’s most famous healthcare professionals to get their opinion.
This morning psychologist Emma Kenny
“Usually there are 15 people here on Christmas day, but this year we have 7 people. I and my kids, my uncle Derek and my mother.
“I make it completely Christmas dinner Then I play games and go for a walk. I’m really sad that I can’t see my sister and her family, so I’ll try to keep it as normal as possible.
“There is talk of having a street party among our neighbors so they can see each other outdoors.
“Some people are still shielded and some are scared and traumatized. But if you haven’t seen your family and are feeling trash, your mental health problems are very high this year. Therefore, you can visit your family for compassionate reasons.
“It’s more scary than staying at home, so even if you’re scared, it’s a good idea to go out and visit your family.
“And don’t spend too much and remember what Christmas is. We bless people in our lives.”
Dr. Adam Kay
“Boris apparently became the hero of his own low-budget Christmas movie and decided to save Christmas.
“The only problem is that no one is saying Coronavirus For this particular ceasefire, next year’s sequel will sadly have far fewer older relatives.
“Just as speed limits aren’t the goal and all-you-can-eat buffets aren’t the challenge, so many people surround the dinner table, so don’t rush to get the most out of the rules. Hmm. As much as possible.
“We all look back at the pandemic and ask,’What more could we do?’
“And this is a good example of what we can all do.
“If the discussions continued by then, I would spend Christmas day at home with my husband. Champagne can stay on the ice until after vaccination.”
Dr. Rachel Clark
“The greatest cruelty of Covid is how ruthlessly it separates us from those who love us. We all crave to be normal and cruel to be together.
“However, Boris Johnson Encouraging families to socialize on Christmas is brilliantly irresponsible when there are three effective vaccines just around the corner.
“He even slammed the NHS logo on his plans twitter – How does he suggest that we support this? We are well aware that the cost of more festive socializing will result in more Covid dying. It’s more loved ones than absent from next year’s Christmas dinner.
“So I’m at home with my husband and children. Mom wants a short socially distant visit. I love her so much that I can’t risk hugging or kissing. Infection We all have to wait a little longer until the rate drops and the first vaccine arrives. “
Dr. Chris Van Taleken
“I have two siblings and my wife has two siblings, so obviously I can’t see everyone. We’re trying to minimize exposure to our mother-in-law and our parents. I will.
“We still don’t understand what we’re trying to do, but we’re lucky to meet a lot of each other anyway. We don’t think Christmas is an opportunity to risk, so we’re safe.
“We all have children in schools and nurseries, so there is no way to manage them.
“We live with my wife’s mother, and we will meet my parents in some way, but I don’t think it makes much sense to take these risks, so I’m allowed. I don’t do as much as I do.
“Also, Christmas isn’t fun if you’re a little worried about catching the virus or infecting others. With the vaccine, if the infection rate is low, we all eat turkey in March. You can, or you can eat. Better things like chicken! “
Sir Robert Winston
“Christmas time is almost the same as what we are doing now. We are strictly aware that we need to be very careful about infections.
“So I see my grandchildren outside the house, but nothing more. There will be no one inside the house.
“Of course, people would say,’He’s a Jew and doesn’t hold Christmas as a religious festival,’ but during the Jewish New Year we could keep the bubble and go to the synagogue. But I didn’t go.
“It’s important to remember that the pandemic isn’t over. Christmas as a religious festival is one thing, but Christmas as a family festival is a whole different thing. And frankly, the family The festival can be held at any time on a safe day.
“Of course it’s nice to meet my family, but for now I think it’s more important to stay healthy. It’s important to note that the virus doesn’t keep Christmas.
“And when the vaccine comes online, it seems very likely that we will be very safe. It will start soon.”
Dr. Miriam Stoppard

“I think I can describe this Christmas as a hitman. I disagree with the government’s relaxation of the five-day limit assigned to Christmas.
“In my mind, I know it seeks a problem, and I’m not the only one to think of this, most scientists agree with me.
“When new cases, hospitalizations, and sadly the death toll surge, it’s as if we haven’t learned any lessons since the last time we relaxed the restrictions.
“No one seems to understand the massive freedom from the limits that ultimately result in people dying.
“How can a few days of freedom outweigh this fallout? I’m crazy.
“I strongly desire to be wrong, but get another spike in Covid in the New Year as a result of intimate mixing, heavy alcohol drinking, and Christmas celebrations celebrated together by multi-generational families. I think you can. I know you are a super spreader.
“That makes my Christmas very modest. Most of the time I’m at home with my husband and sometimes get together with one family (son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter) I’m in a bubble with. I will. “
“Just because the government says that, you don’t have to celebrate for five days, and what if we couldn’t celebrate a lot outdoors?”
Dr. Chris Steele
“Christmas is very limited. I and my wife are 70 odd, so I’m shielding. We have 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren, but with my wife and 2 daughters. We will have a very small Christmas together.
“One daughter lives with us and the other is in the bubbles of our little society, which means we won’t see our grandchildren this year, indoors anyway.
“Usually we have the whole family here, but we said,’Forget this Christmas and get together for Easter, when we have vaccines and we are all more confident.”
“When we get out of the blockade, people are less cautious about social distance and wearing masks. They mix further, after which cases increase again and more hospitalizations are seen. Very It’s hard.
“I don’t have a chance this Christmas. I don’t think families should seize it. Let’s delay the celebration and stay safe.”

“One of the things I don’t do at Christmas is to have my 95-year-old father stay.
We keep in touch by phone or Skype every day, but he’s not ready to risk getting infected.
“On the plus side, the care home where he lives in an independent living flat has just installed a Perspecs wall, so you can safely visit him.
“I will only spend a quiet Christmas with my husband, son, and his partner who live with us.
“My daughter and her partner may join us, but if they do, we eat outside (wrapped in a sleeping bag under the shade!).
“Christmas has always been a big problem for us. We love entertainment and usually have lunch for about 50 people during the five days off.
“But this year is not the case. We really hope that we will be vaccinated soon and not ready to take risks.”
