Lancaster County Prison closed after 12 prisoners tested positive for COVID-19

Lancaster County Prison reported 12 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday night. This is because the entire prison was closed to minimize exposure. According to Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Anne Ames, the prisoner was tested positive after showing symptoms. Further testing revealed 11 other cases in prison. The prison believes that the outbreaks in the two housing units were contained. In a statement, Ames said all 12 prisoners were quarantined in prison clinics and did not require hospitalization. At this time, prison authorities do not know how the virus infects the general public. Prior to this outbreak, Ames stated that there were nine cases in prison. Everything was discovered during the booking process. Prisons say they will continue to provide tests and medical screenings to prisoners and staff.
