North Carolina reports that the number of deaths from COVID-19 and the number of people hospitalized for the virus have risen to record highs in a single day.

In North Carolina, COVID-19 has hospitalized more than 2,000 people for the first time since the virus was declared pandemic in March.
97% of hospitals report to the state, and 2,033 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19. In a report on Tuesday, the state recorded another hit on the benchmark as the daily positive percentage reached 10.2%.
Last week, the positive percentage of the day averaged around 7.4%. The state target achieved early in the pandemic is 5%.
2,883 new cases were reported and an additional 23 deaths were reported.
