Intermountain researchers start COVID-19 research
Salt Lake City — Intermountain Healthcare researchers are working on treatment research focused on people who are COVID-19 positive but not ill enough to be hospitalized.
“Many studies on COVID-19 focus on the most ill patients on ICU or ventilator. This study focuses on people who have never been hospitalized. It is unique because it is, “said Dr. Sarah Majercik, a trauma surgeon at Intermountain Healthcare and a senior researcher in Utah research.

Utahns with COVID-19 are some of the first in the world to participate in a national study sponsored by the National Institute of Cardiopulmonary Blood and are part of Operation Warpspeed.
Researchers are trying to determine whether administration of aspirin or anticoagulants prevents the formation of blood clots in people with COVID-19.
“The information we get can help doctors keep patients away from the hospital, and it can also help prevent some of the long-term complications we see.” Dr. Majercik said.
This also helps determine why people become COVID-19 Longhowlers.

Researchers are looking for people aged 40-80 who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks and have not been hospitalized. Participants will be given either aspirin, an anticoagulant, or a placebo for 45 days. Participants will continue to talk to the researchers for a total of 75 days after they stop taking the drug.
Intermountain aims to reach hundreds of participants, with a goal of 7,000 participants nationwide. The survey will be conducted until March 2021. Participants will receive a $ 50 Amazon Gift Card.
