Authorities say Mexico can have up to 26,500 cases of coronavirus

Mexico City (Reuters)-A Mexican government official has announced that 26,500 people may be infected with the Mexican coronavirus.
Mexico reported 3,181 confirmed cases of the virus, but many infected were probably symptomatic or undiagnosed, said Hugo Lopez-Gatell, Deputy Health Minister.
“From what you can see, the epidemic is eight times as large,” he said at a news conference.
According to Lopez-Gatell, the estimated 26,500 cases are based on a model called “Sentinel Surveillance” and use the number of cases in 375 health districts to estimate the rest of the country.
Mexico reported 396 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, but the number of deaths increased to 174.
