Cardiologists warn that COVID-19 can damage the heart of infants
The American Heart Association warning Infants may be vulnerable to heart damage from COVID-19, citing a case study depicting the outcome of a two-month-old baby.

According to the ACC, doctors detected reversible myocardial injury and heart failure in children after the baby tested positive for COVID-19 on repeated tests. This is similar to the heart problems seen in adults with the virus.
Doctors have performed multiple tests to rule out other possible causes of heart damage. The baby recovered normal cardiac function and was discharged without the need for heart failure medication.
“Most children with COVID-19 show asymptomatic or mild symptoms, but our case shows the potential for reversible myocardial injury in infants with COVID-19,” said the lead author. Madhu Sharma, MD, New York City, a pediatric cardiologist at the Montefiore Children’s Hospital, said in a news release. “Testing for COVID-19 in children with signs and symptoms of heart failure is very important to learn more about the effects of this virus.”
