Italy reports 993 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours-Ministry of Health
Rome (Reuters)-Italy reported record 993 coronavirus-related deaths on Thursday, against 684 on Wednesday, and 23,225 new infections, compared to 20,709 the day before. The Ministry of Health said.
The record number of deaths recorded in one day was 919 on March 27, the peak of the first wave of the pandemic.
Italy, the first western country to be infected with the virus, has killed 58,038 COVID-19s since its outbreak in February. This is the second highest victim in Europe after the United Kingdom. In addition, 1,665 million cases have been registered so far.
Swabs performed in the last day were 226,729, an increase from the previous 207,143.
The number of hospitalized patients infected with COVID-19 was 31,772 on Thursday, a decrease of 682 the day before. The number of intensive care units has decreased by 19 to 3,597.
When the second wave of Italy accelerated rapidly in the first half of November, hospitalizations increased by about 1,000 per day and intensive care unit occupancy increased by about 100 per day.
