“We are disappointed that the quarantine program has been canceled because we are in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic,” said Dr. Robin McQuarrie, a Nova Scotia doctor.
The quarantine program allowed some physicians to cover a 14-day self-quarantine period if exposed to COVID-19 at work. The doctor was told last week that the program was over.
“I was a little surprised that this part of the program was closed,” McCulley said, saying the program is still ongoing, allowing doctors to effectively work.
“For doctors who can virtually continue to work, it’s great to have access to it (a virtual program).”
Some doctors cannot provide virtual care like emergency department doctors.

“If you are exposed and need to be quarantined … if there are shifts that cannot be performed during that period and 14 days is a long period, there is no way to recover those costs.”
MacQuarrie said the changes could impact security, and doctors feel they are well-planned in case they are exposed, especially given the closeness to the holiday season. Said.

The state’s health ministry refused to interview Global News on Tuesday.
In a statement in an email, the department stated that the quarantine program was being implemented for the first wave of COVID-19 and was linked to an income stabilization program.
The program ended on July 13, said spokesman Marla MacInnis.
“Our understanding of the virus has grown significantly, and the introduction of the virtual care code allows many doctors to continue to serve themselves while self-isolating,” said MacInnis.
MacQuarrie said last week’s news was disappointing, but he was excited to extend virtual care until the end of December.
She also said Nova Scotia doctors are optimistic about advancing persistent virtual solutions.
Currently, the group is not seeking additional support programs for COVID-19.
