A 95-year-old woman is looking forward to giving her great-grandson a hug for the first time after receiving the Covid-19 vaccination.

Ethel Jean Murdoch from West Derby, Liverpool, was given a jab at Aintree University Hospital on Wednesday, the day after the NHS launched a mass vaccination program across the UK.

Great-grandmother, who supports Everton, who is also married to 95-year-old Malcolm, said he hasn’t been able to properly meet the latest additions to her family since he was born in August.

She states: “The hardest part was not being able to give a big hug to my family.

“James, my great-grandson was born five weeks early, on August 30th. I couldn’t give him a big hug. It’s hard to meet him properly because of difficult times. It was really difficult. We are in now. “
