response: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Evidence from clinical trials suggested a life-prolonging effect in people taking cotrimoxazole, and microbiological data suggested that infection was associated with prognosis.However, in this large multicenter study, cotrimoxazole has a beneficial effect on the time to death, hospitalization, or lung transplantation from all causes in people with moderate to severe idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
