“Once the product comes in, you have to put it in the ultra-low temperature freezer as soon as possible, and that’s actually an easy part,” Rossner said in the video.
The clinic also has an additional ultra-low temperature freezer in case one of the 16 freezers fails.
Workers only have three minutes to remove these vaccines from the freezer so they can be prepared for the patient. After that, Rosner said the freezer had to be closed and kept closed for two hours.
The vaccine is then refrigerated in a unit commonly available in the hospital. They can stay in their common refrigerator for up to 5 days.
The dose is then delivered to a site that can be administered to the patient. They are mixed together for injection and should be used within 6 hours, Rosner said.
Clinic and MetroHealth are one of the first 10 sites Ohio has selected to send vaccine shipments. The first dose is given to high-risk health care workers, DeWine said.
