S7HD with CDC’s reduced quarantine options |
The Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) is adopting a new option from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reduce COVID-19-related quarantine periods.
The CDC currently recommends a 14-day quarantine period. However, the new option gives the community health department some acceptable alternatives.
With the new option, after 10 days without COVID-19 testing, individuals may be released from quarantine by the local health department if symptoms do not occur during the monitoring period.
If an individual decides to undergo the COVID-19 test from the 6th day of quarantine, the quarantine time may be even shorter. If an individual has a negative COVID-19 test and no symptoms during the monitoring period, they may be released from quarantine after the test results reach the health department. These new options will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
“It is important to note that quarantine is a term used for individuals who are not positive for COVID-19. The term quarantine is used for individuals who have positive cases for COVID-19.” , Nathan Rider, Contact Tracing Outreach Coordinator for S7HD, explained.
The Illinois Public Health Service reports that it does not recommend the application of two shortened quarantine options in population environments such as nursing homes and nursing homes due to the risk of severe illness and outbreaks.
Individuals must agree to follow these additional steps until 14 days after exposure of COVID-19 to an individual, as both options allow for shorter quarantine periods. Correct and consistent use of masks (including at home). Maintain social distance. Hand and cough hygiene; cleaning and disinfecting the environment; avoiding crowds. Ensure proper indoor ventilation. Continue to monitor the symptoms of COVID-19 disease.Minimize contact with people at high risk of serious illness, including vulnerable populations
“As the virus continues to spread throughout the region, Southern Seven encourages all residents to be tested, regardless of symptoms, especially in close contact with people who test positive. “We do,” said the rider. “It is through testing that the health sector can effectively track the disease and prevent its spread to the most vulnerable populations.”
Residents who cannot be tested are advised to note the following symptoms: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, malaise, body pain, headache, loss of new taste or odor, sore throat, stuffy nose or Runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If you experience any symptoms, start quarantine immediately and contact your healthcare provider about getting a COVID-19 test.
On Thursday, Southern Seven reported a cumulative total of 3991 COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths in the Southern Seven region since the start of the pandemic in the United States.
