NS reports six new cases of COVID-19. 57 active cases remain

In Halifax-Nova Scotia, six new cases were reported in three zones on Tuesday, with new single-digit COVID-19 cases continuing to be seen.

There are three cases in the central zone. Two cases are in the northern zone and the other is in the western zone. All new cases are close contact with previously reported cases.

“The arrival of the first COVID-19 vaccine in Nova Scotia today is a milestone in the fight against the virus,” said Prime Minister Stephen McNeil. “Because vaccine shipments will increase in the coming weeks and months, we will first follow national guidance on immunity in priority groups.”

The six previously identified cases are now considered resolved and the number of active cases remains 57.

Nova Scotia’s daily new COVID-19 cases have been in the single digits since 5 December. However, Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Health Officer, says Nova Scotia should continue to limit social contact and non-essential travel.

“There are changes in epidemiology in our state. Most of our cases are travel-related or are in close contact with previously reported cases,” Strang said in a news release.

COVID-19 vaccine is here this week

The first COVID-19 vaccine has already arrived in Canada, and Nova Scotia will receive the first allocation of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine 1,950 times this week.

“Before arriving in Nova Scotia last week, I participated in several exercises to improve my approach to handling, storing and managing Pfizer vaccine supplies,” said Robert Strang, Chief Health Officer of Nova Scotia. The state says it will focus on the central zone in December as vaccines cannot be moved within the state due to stringent storage, handling and transportation requirements.

The dose of Moderna vaccine will also arrive this month.

From this week to the first three months of 2021, the state will receive a total of 150,000 vaccinations with small quotas each week. The vaccine will be given twice.

The first three months of 2021 will focus on the immunity of long-term care residents and staff, the elderly, and healthcare professionals who are directly involved in patient care.

Breakdown of cases

The Nova Scotia Institute of Health completed 1,612 Nova Scotia tests on Sunday.

Since October 1, Nova Scotia has tested 89,419 and confirmed 337 positive COVID-19 cases. Of these, 280 cases are considered resolved and 57 active cases remain. No one died during the second wave. Because of COVID-19, there is no one in the hospital.

Since the start of the pandemic, Nova Scotia has completed 212,590 tests and reported a total of 1,426 COVID-19 cases. Of these, 1,304 were considered resolved and 65 died as a result of the new coronavirus.

Cases confirmed in the state are between the ages of 10 and 90 and over.

56% of the cases are female and 44% are male.

There are cases identified throughout the state, but most have been identified in the central zone, including the Halifax municipality.

The state government states that the cumulative cases per zone may change as data is updated in the state’s electronic information system, Panorama.

The numbers reflect where people live, not where the samples were collected.

• Eastern zone: 64 cases

The state of emergency, first declared on 22 March, was extended to 27 December.

Possibility of exposure

The Nova Scotia Public Health Service advises anyone who works or visits the Century Snooker Club in New Glasgow between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm on December 8 to book a COVID-19 test. ..

Anyone exposed to the virus at this location can develop symptoms by December 22nd.

COVID ALERT APP

The Canadian COVID-19 Alert App is available in Nova Scotia.

The app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play, informs users if they may have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

People who experience fever, a new cough, a worsening cough, or two or more of the next new or worsening symptoms should take an online test or call 811 to see if they need a COVID-19 test. It is advisable to judge.

Self-isolation and mandatory mask

Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 should be quarantined at home, away from the public, for 14 days.

Anyone traveling to Nova Scotia from outside the Atlantic for non-essential reasons must be self-quarantined for 14 days and must complete a self-assessment form before coming to the state. Travelers must self-isolate by themselves, away from others. If you cannot quarantine alone, the entire household must also be quarantined for 14 days.

Residents of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador do not need to be quarantined when traveling to Nova Scotia, but must be prepared to prove that they live on the border. ..

Visitors from outside the Atlantic region who have already been self-isolated for 14 days in another Atlantic state can travel to Nova Scotia without self-isolating again.

Face masks are compulsory in Nova Scotia’s indoor public spaces.
