Allegheny County again surpasses 1,000 new coronavirus cases
Pittsburgh, PA — On Tuesday, the Allegheny County Health Department reported 1,059 new, potentially confirmed cases of coronavirus. Since the outbreak began in March, it has increased from 40,874 on Monday to 41,333.
The county reported the deaths of 10 new coronaviruses. The county’s death toll is currently increasing from 665 on Monday to 675.
The 569 confirmed cases were from 2,395 new tests with a positive rate of 23%. For comparison, the latest positive rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 16 percent, state officials said.
There were 2,580 hospitalizations during the outbreak.
Westmoreland County has 17,522 cases, Washington County has 6,662 cases, Butler County has 6,643 cases, and Beaver County has 6,256 cases. Including the number of Allegheny County, the total number is 78,416. It has increased from 76,920 on Monday.
According to the State Department of Health, the virus killed 1,381 people in the area, with 675 in Allegheny County, 294 in Westmoreland County, 192 in Beaver County, 125 in Butler County, and 95 in Washington County. It has increased from 1,358 on Monday.
New mitigation measures were implemented on Saturday as coronavirus cases and deaths are increasing across Pennsylvania. Until January 4, the state has restricted indoor dining, closed gyms, cinemas, bowling alleys, restricted meetings, and stopped youth sports.
