County receiving 3,900 COVID vaccinations
Stanislaus County will receive the initial allocation of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine within a few days and will soon begin administration to front-line healthcare professionals.
According to Stanislaus County Health Services Agency spokesman Kamresh Kaul, the county’s first shipment will be 3,900 vaccinations and will be provided to front-line healthcare professionals in the county. The first shipment is not enough to vaccinate all front-line healthcare professionals, as the vaccine requires two doses for the highest levels of protection, Kaur said.
The state received the first 33,000 doses from Pfizer on Monday. According to the Associated Press, another 300,000 doses are planned for this week and another 400,000 doses are expected next week. Subsequent doses will be secured not only for healthcare professionals, but also for residents and workers in long-term care and skilled nursing facilities who are expected to receive the vaccine through local pharmacies.
Dr. Erica Pan, Deputy Public Health Officer of the State, said essential workers and workers with medical conditions vulnerable to severe cases of the virus could be prioritized for vaccination: He said he would be one of the groups. SCHSA uses two ultra-low temperature freezers rented from Stanislaus to store vaccines.
