See what states and territories said about the COVID-19 vaccine program

Canada’s largest outbreak effort in history began on December 14, after receiving the first COVID-19 vaccine shipments over the weekend in Ontario and Quebec.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has signed an agreement that Canada will be vaccinated with up to 168,000 COVID-19 vaccines of Moderna by the end of December prior to its scheduled arrival in January, one of 40 million doses of Moderna. Ottawa is in 2021.

The Moderna vaccine has not yet been approved by Health Canada, but Trudeau said delivery could begin within 48 hours of getting the green light.

Canada is also set to receive about 200,000 total early shipments of Pfizer-BioNTech doses next week, in addition to 30,000 this week. They are directed to 70 distribution sites nationwide (up from the current 14) where vaccines can be administered.

The Canadian Armed Forces is supporting a large-scale effort to distribute 249,000 doses developed by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German partner BioNTech.

Newfoundland and Labrador

A public health nurse in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador received the first state dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at Memorial University on Wednesday.

Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Chief Health Officer, Newfoundland and Labrador, administered the iconic first vaccine.

Prime Minister Andrew Furay said he plans to receive 1,950 COVID-19 vaccines at the St. John’s reception site this week.

The state plans to reship the vaccine later this month, Fury said.

Prince Edward Island

In Charlottetown, doctors, residents care workers, and registered nurses were the first to be vaccinated on Prince Edward Island on Wednesday.

Dr. Heather Morrison, director of state health, said hundreds of people would be vaccinated daily until Saturday.

PEI received 1,950 doses of vaccine on its first shipment.

The owner of a bluefin tuna exporter in the eastern part of PEI provided the state government with two freezers to support efforts to store vaccines.

New Brunswick

The state plans to host the first COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Miramichi Regional Hospital this weekend.

Health Minister of New Brunswick said that the shipment of 1,950 doses of Pfizer vaccine will inoculate long-term care residents and staff, prompt COVID-19 response team staff, emergency personnel, healthcare workers involved in COVID units, and the elderly Said to be used to 85 and senior First Nations nurses.

Dorothy Shepherd says the vaccine program will be implemented by the state emergency response organization.

A nurse working in the COVID unit of the Halifax Clinic was the first recipient of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in her state on Wednesday.

According to Strang, vaccines have specific handling requirements, so Pfizer stipulates that the first vaccination should be done near where the dose is stored.

Nova Scotia has one ultra-low temperature freezer for storing vaccines in the higher education institutions of the Queen Elizabeth II Health Science Center.

Through Ottawa, the state has obtained another freezer operated from a central vaccine storage at the Public Health Service in Halifax, Strang said. The state is also considering securing a freezer from the private sector.

Quebec

The first dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine was given in the state on Monday.

Residents of long-term care facilities and medical staff are given top priority.

The next group is people living in individual senior housing, residents of isolated communities, and people over the age of 80.

Ontario

Ontario was vaccinated with Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine 6,000 times over the weekend and began vaccination on Monday.

Manitoba

Doctors working in the intensive care unit were first vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine in Manitoba on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Brian Pallister says about 900 healthcare workers in the emergency room will be vaccinated first.

As more shipments arrive, other healthcare professionals, seniors and indigenous peoples will be prioritized.

The state plans to vaccinate more than 100,000 people by March. This is about 7 percent of Manitoba’s population.

Authorities say they have set up a large “supersite” to provide the vaccine. The first freezer that can store Pfizer vaccines at low temperatures was delivered and installed. Four more are in preparation.

The state says vaccines will be more widely available in more places, similar to traditional vaccination campaigns such as annual flu shots.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan launched a vaccination program on Tuesday when two health workers received their first vaccinations.

Prime Minister Scott Moe states that the state has given Pfizer vaccine 1,950 times.

The first official phase of the Saskatchewan vaccination program will be in late December, when the state will receive higher doses.

It is intended for more healthcare professionals, care staff, caregivers, seniors over 80, and remote people over 50.

Approximately 202,052 doses of Pfizer vaccine are expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, with 10,725 weekly allocations planned.

Moe says vaccinations for the general public are expected to begin in April.

Alberta

The first vaccinations in Calgary and Edmonton were given to health care workers on Tuesday.

Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenny announced in a video released late Monday that it was recorded next to a freighter at Calgary International Airport that the state’s first 3,900 vaccinations had arrived.

Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro said 25,000 Pfizer doses are scheduled for next week and will be given to healthcare professionals.

Joe Savikataak says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told him that the Nunavut Territory would take enough doses to vaccinate 75 percent of its population.

Dr. Michael Patterson, Chief Public Health Officer, states that the Nunavut Territory will prioritize vaccines for the elderly and healthcare professionals.

Savikataaq says his government is still working on plans to deploy the vaccine after it arrives on the territory.

Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories Prime Minister has stated that the NWT will be vaccinated with 51,000 Moderna vaccines in the New Year.

Caroline Cochrane says it is enough to vaccinate 75% of the population over the age of 18.

Health Minister Julie Green said two dedicated freezers for storing vaccines have come out of the federal government and will be installed in Yellowknife and Inuvik.

A small portable freezer is also under development and will be located in a small community.

The Yukon Territory says it will have enough Moderna vaccine by spring to vaccinate 75% of its population.

According to a statement from the Yukon Territory Government, the allocation of this area is aware of its large indigenous and remote communities.
