The county health center reported on Friday afternoon that 21 cases of COVID-19 have now been identified in St. Francois County.

According to the number of health centers, 16 cases are women. Five are men. Eleven cases are contacts with other confirmed cases. Five cases are under investigation to determine the source of the infection. At present, the source of the virus is unknown in five cases.

Six of the cases required hospitalization at some point in the illness. Four have fully recovered. It is defined as having recovered from the disease for at least 72 hours without the use of fever-reducing drugs at least 7 days after the onset of symptoms.

The county reported the first death from a virus last Friday.

According to this release, as the number of cases continues to grow throughout Missouri, the health center is calling on as many people as possible to stay at home and wash their hands frequently.

“The next two weeks are important for people to stay at home and slow the spread of COVID-19,” the release said. “By focusing on staying at home, we can stop the spread of COVID-19 and allow the community to return to a more familiar lifestyle.”
