Australia’s influenza deaths in 2020 fell by an average of the third highest as a result of Covid’s social distance measurements.

Between January 1st and October 27th of this year, 1,846 people died of influenza or pneumonia, new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show.
This showed a 36 percent plunge from 2,885 deaths from the same root cause when combined for weekly illness deaths.
The plunge in flu deaths was even more dramatic than the 18% plunge in respiratory illness. This is a broad category that includes influenza, pneumonia, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis but does not include COVID-19.

Coronavirus social distance expansion measures came into effect in March, but the decline in influenza mortality was particularly pronounced from the end of August, consistent with late winter and the traditional influenza season.
In the first week of September, 30 people died from influenza or pneumonia in 2020, with an average of 121 from 2015 to 2019.
Influenza mortality this year in early spring was a quarter of the four-year average.
Prior to 2020, influenza and pneumonia mortality averaged three digits in the seven weeks of August and September.
From the beginning of January to the end of October 9,977 deaths from respiratory illness, The average mortality rate from 2015 to 2019 is 12,161.
Since January, 908 people have died from the coronavirus in Australia, and 90.3%, or 820, have died in Victoria as a result of a failed hotel quarantine in Melbourne.

The latest Covid epicenter, New South Wales, recorded just eight cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, raising expectations that the outbreak in Sydney will be contained.
Seven cases are associated with the Northern Beaches cluster currently in 90, and one is a healthcare worker in western Sydney who is not associated with an outbreak.
Healthcare workers transferred a family of three with symptoms on December 14, after returning from the United States and entering hotel quarantine. We also transferred patients between hospitals, homes and long-term care facilities.
