Legionellosis found in Quincy’s veterans’ home
A case of legionellosis was reported at a veteran’s home in Illinois, north of Quincy. A few years after the outbreak, more than 12 inhabitants died.
The Illinois Public Health Service said in a statement that the symptoms of COVID-19 and pneumonia, which began in Quincy on November 30, tested positive for Legionella during hospitalization.
Quincy is about 100 miles west of Springfield on the Missouri border.
Officials said the Illinois Veterans Affairs Department was informed of a positive test for legionellosis on December 22.
Health officials said the resident lived in Hammond Hall. Hammond Hall was tested quarterly and was finally negative for Legionella on October 27.
The last case of legionellosis at Quincy’s home occurred on December 21, 2019 in Pfeifferville, according to health officials. The facility has recently been fitted with new plumbing and water purifiers.
