Colorado continues to see COVID hospitalizations and lower positive rates – CBS Denver

Denver (CBS4) – The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in Colorado is steadily declining this month. The state’s 7-day average positive rate dropped from 12.41% on December 4th to 6.58% on December 23rd.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported a positive rate of 5.84% daily on Wednesday. The World Health Organization recommends a positive rate of 5% or less for at least two weeks before local governments begin reopening.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 2 million people have been tested for the virus in Colorado. CDPHE reports more than 4 million test encounters, including repeated individual tests.

Confirmed COVID-19 hospitalization peaked in early December. On Thursday, CDPHE reported 1,163 patients hospitalized for the virus. This has decreased by 59 since Wednesday.

One-fifth of the state’s hospitals and facilities expect a shortage next week. At the beginning of December, more than one-third of Colorado’s facilities reported staffing concerns to the state.
