Brooklyn Clinic Faces Crime Investigation Against Unauthorized COVID-19 Vaccine
Healthcare networks with clinics in Boropark, Bensonhurst and Williamsburg have been criminally investigated for vaccination with an unauthorized COVID-19 vaccine, officials said.
The ParCare Community Health Network said, “It is possible that the COVID-19 vaccine was illegally obtained, transferred to a facility in another part of the state in violation of state guidelines, and diverted to the general public,” said a state health commissioner. Howard Zucker said in a news release.
The statement came hours after the post asked a state health spokesman about ParCare to give the coveted vaccination.
According to a statement, the network’s actions appear to violate the state’s plan to first administer a limited supply of vaccines to front-line healthcare professionals, along with nursing home residents and staff.
Currently, there are not enough vaccines in the first group to be vaccinated.
“The supply of COVID-19 vaccine is still limited and has not yet met the demand between groups prioritizing first vaccination,” said Dr. Jane Zucker, Vice Chairman of Immunization, City Health Department. Said on Thursday.
News site BoroPark24 reported On December 21, ParCare claimed to have been vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine 3,500 times.
“Today, hundreds of patients have already been vaccinated and people are still coming,” ParCare CEO and President Gary Schlesinger told the news site.
Schlesinger also said he plans to vaccinate 500 people at Boropark on the same day.
ParCare has launched a website, parcarevaccine.com, that allows residents to register for vaccines.
“You need to be on that list,” Schlesinger told BoroPark24, adding that he expects to get more vaccines every day. “Once you’re on the list, you need to scrutinize to see if you’re a healthcare professional, over 60, or in an underlying condition. With this first shot I will not vaccinate those who do not. “
The company said it accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most other insurance plans.
Schlesinger is well-connected politically in the Orthodox Jewish community. He has built relationships with Mayor De Blasio, Attorney General Letitia James, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, and Brooklyn District President and Mayor candidate Eric Adams, sources said.
The ParCare ad claimed that the network was “FDA approved” to receive a “minimum number of COVID-19 vaccines.”
“Vaccines will be available on a first-come, first-served basis,” the ad said.
He adds that the vaccine is given “only to people in the following categories” and is described as “elderly, high risk, underlying illness”.
A community member told The Post that his father in his 60s received the vaccine at the Williamsburg Clinic in ParCare.
“It is known in the community that vaccinations can be given as needed,” said the resident, adding that it was a “mystery” how the clinic was supplied.
“We take this very seriously and DOH will assist the state police in criminal investigations on this issue. Anyone who is found to have deliberately participated in this scheme is to the fullest extent of the law. You will be held responsible.” The state health commissioner said.
