Orange County firefighters vaccinated with Moderna COVID-19

Approximately 100 Orange County firefighters were vaccinated with the Moderna coronavirus vaccine on Saturday morning, providing relief to institutions that were hit hard by the increase in COVID-19 cases in the community.

After firefighters received the Moderna vaccine earlier this week, three stations were set up on Saturday morning to vaccinate firefighters at the Orange County Fire Department.

“We’ve been waiting for the vaccine for a long time. The coronavirus is on the rise — it’s changed the way we do business a bit,” said OCFA captain Ray McQueen. “Being able to come here and get vaccinated provides us with another layer of protection. With the addition of layers of protection, we can do our job better and more safely and help everyone around us. can.”

The fire department is working with the Orange County Healthcare Agency to prioritize the first responder to be vaccinated first.

Like the Pfizer-manufactured vaccine, the Moderna vaccine is given in two injections every 28 days. However, unlike the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine does not need to be stored at very low temperatures.

Meanwhile, Orange County reported about 3,500 new cases of coronavirus on Christmas Eve. No new coronavirus numbers were reported because Christmas day is a holiday.
