Covid-19 vaccination had to be suspended in nine Bavarian districts on Sunday due to concerns that strict cold chain conditions were not maintained during Pfizer vaccination.
Due to the complex logistics of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine distribution, a vaccination campaign was launched in Bavaria, Germany on Sunday. Vaccines should be stored at cryogenic temperatures to maintain the stability of proteins that provoke an immune response and should be used within a few days of freezing. Currently, concerns about the integrity of the cold chain have put vaccinations on hold, Bavarian radio reports.
Officials in seven districts of Upper Franconia and two districts of Swabia have decided to suspend vaccination after discovering inconsistencies in the temperature records of the shipping boxes. The Swabian authorities then consulted with the producers and decided to proceed as planned, but the situation in Franconia remains in flux.
“If there is a slight chance that the vaccine does not meet 100% quality standards, the batch will not be rolled out.” Christian Meissner, president of the Upper Franconia District Association, spoke of the decision.He said that the people have that process “it is perfect.”
