In the Waterloo region, there are 208 new COVID-19 cases in 3 days
Waterloo Regional Public Health has reported 208 new COVID-19 cases since Thursday.
The online public health dashboard suggests that 83 new cases were reported on Christmas, 64 on Boxing Day and 57 on Sunday, for a total of 204 new cases. However, officials confirmed on Sunday that 208 was actually the correct number, adding that cases could be transferred to the Waterloo area or transferred to other health units.
There are no new deaths and the total number of COVID-related deaths in the region is only 158.
About 37 people are hospitalized, one less than last week, and 12 are in the intensive care unit.
As of Sunday, there are 611 active cases and 28 outbreaks in the area.
in the meantime, Ontario reports 2,005 new COVID-19 cases and 18 deaths on Sunday. It’s the 13th consecutive day the state has seen more than 2,000 new daily cases.
28 outbreaks
There are 28 active outbreaks in the area.
Public health has declared five new outbreaks in the area’s care facilities or elderly housing with care:
- Pinehaven care in Waterloo. The staff has one case. The outbreak was declared on December 26th.
- Nisbure Retirement Residence in New Hamburg. There is one resident. The outbreak was declared on December 25th.
- Two cases of Forest Heights long-term care and staff at Kitchener. The outbreak was declared on December 25th.
- There is one case for a staff member at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge. The outbreak was declared on December 25th.
- El Myra’s Burns Wall Nursing Home. There are 4 staff. The outbreak was declared on December 24th.
The number of ongoing outbreaks in Cambridge Country Manners increased by three more in staff. Approximately 60 residents and 61 staff have been positive since the outbreak was declared earlier this month. Ten people infected with the virus have died.
Another staff member living in the village of Winston Park was COVID-19 positive. This means that a total of 24 residents and 21 staff are positive for infection. One died.
There are ongoing outbreaks in Trinity Village Care, St. Luke’s Place Care, and Granite Landing retirement homes.
Outbreaks have been declared in the 5th floor unit of St. Mary’s General Hospital and the Drug A unit of Cambridge Memorial Hospital. St. Mary’s continues to work on the outbreak in the chest unit on the 6th floor. It also occurs in one of the medical units at Grand River Hospital.
Outbreaks at Franklin Public School increased by one. This means that two students tested positive for the virus. Outbreaks have also been reported at Stanley Park Public School, Lincoln Heights Public School, and St. Daniels Catholic School.
The outbreak at Hillcrest Public School was declared on December 26th.
