Three-day data shared on Sunday show 524 new COVID cases and 28 deaths
After a holiday break, Public Health Manitoba announced hundreds of new cases of COVID-19 and more than 20 deaths as a result of the virus on Christmas weekend.
Between 9:30 am on December 24 and 9:30 am on Sunday, the state recorded 524 new cases of the virus and 28 deaths.
Of these cases, 245 were reported in Winnipeg, 101 in the Northern Health Area, 96 in the Interlake-Eastern Health Area, 58 in the Southern Health-Santeshud Area, and 24 in the Prairie Mountain Health Area. .. ..
More than half of these deaths were associated with outbreaks in state personal care facilities, including 17 deaths in care facilities around Winnipeg.
The deaths included men in their 60s, men in their 80s, and women in their 70s associated with the outbreak at the Poseidon Care Center. A woman in her 70s and 80s at the Charles Wood Care Center. Men in their 70s, men in their 80s, men in their 90s, and women in their 100s were involved in the outbreak in Winnipeg’s convalescent home. A man in his 80s and a woman in his 90s from the Holy Family House. And one woman in her 90s and 100s at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, all in Winnipeg.
One man in his 80s died in connection with an outbreak at Oakview Place Personal Care Home, and another man in his 80s died in connection with an outbreak at Park Manor Care Home. A woman in her 90s died in connection with an outbreak at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centers. And a man in his 70s died in connection with an outbreak at Fred Douglas Lodge.
In homes other than Winnipeg, a man in his 80s died in connection with an outbreak in Oakbank’s Kinplace, and a woman in her 90s at the George Colon Memorial in Buniboni Bee Creation, Northern Health Area Died from the outbreak.
Other deaths recorded over the weekend included women in their 30s, women in their 60s, men in their 60s, and men in their 80s from the Winnipeg Health Area. Men in their 60s and 70s from the Northern Health Area. Women in their 80s and 90s in the Southern Health-Santeshud area, and women in their 90s in the Southern Health-Santeshud area were associated with outbreaks at the Portage District General Hospital.
As of Sunday, a total of 645 Manitoba people died as a result of COVID-19.
Public health recently declared an outbreak at Carman’s Boyne Lodge Personal Care Home. This has moved to critical (red) on pandemic-enabled systems.
The total number of cases confirmed by the test in Manitoba was 24,145 on Sunday. Of these cases, 4,488 are currently listed as active and 19,012 are listed as recovered.
The state’s five-day test positive rate rose from 10.6% on Thursday to 12.1% on Sunday. The positive test rate for Winnipeg was 12.5%.
The number of clinical tests shows that 4,238 tests were completed between December 24th and 26th, and the total number of tests since February was 415,859.
The number of COVID patients in the intensive care unit decreased over the weekend — 31 ICUs with active COVID-19 and 4 ICUs who were no longer infectious but continued to require care as a result of the virus. A total of 35 ICU patients, down from 41 on Thursday.
There were 252 hospitalized patients with active COVID-19 infection and 89 COVID patients, who were no longer infectious but still needed care.
The outbreak was declared at the Transitional Care Unit and Headingley Orthodontic Center at the Miceli Cordia Health Center.
During that time, the state did not hold vaccination clinics on weekends, and a total of 2,177 vaccinations have remained since the first vaccinations arrived in the state earlier this month.
The next vaccination clinic is scheduled for December 29-31 at the Radiy Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. The state said a total of 1,266 reservations were made in the last three days for qualified healthcare professionals.
Additional Immunization Clinics will be held at the RBC Convention Center on January 4th and 5th — approximately 360 reservations will continue to be available on Sundays.
