Sandusky County Health Department administers the first vaccine
Fremont-Before Jeff Jackson had time to think about it, his first COVID-19 shot was administered on Monday morning, his left shirt sleeve was rolled back, and he handed him a vaccination card. it was done.
With that shot, Sandusky County began the first round of COVID-19 vaccination.
Jackson, the county’s EMS director, and other EMS personnel received the first Moderna vaccine at the county health office.
Bethany Brown, Sandusky County Public Health Commissioner, said the Department of Health will give 10 vaccinations on Monday and will be scheduled later in the week.
“It was probably the best shot I’ve ever had,” said Jackson, after the health department’s nursing director, Fat Age, performed his preventive contact. “It was almost painless.”
Sandusky County received its first vaccine shipment last week..
According to Brown, the county will receive about 200 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines on the first vaccination.
She said the health sector would coordinate with clinics, dentists, group homes and other institutions to serve Ohio’s first-tier residents for vaccination.
“Hospitals have their own (vaccine dose),” Brown said.
Mr Brown said he did not know how many Sandusky County residents were in the first group to prioritize vaccination with COVID-19.
The state’s Ministry of Health states that vulnerable individuals living nearby and their caregivers are prioritized, including:
• Healthcare professionals and staff who are routinely involved in the care of COVID-19 patients.
• Nursing home residents and staff.
• Residents and staff of Assisted Living facilities.
• Patients and staff at the State Mental Hospital.
• Persons with developmental disabilities living in group homes, housing facilities, or centers, and persons with mental disorders, including substance use disorders, and staff at those locations.
• Two home residents and staff for Ohio veterans.
• EMS responder.
According to Brown, the county health department is conducting an online survey to better understand the number of residents in Sandusky County who are eligible to enter the first tier based on state guidelines.
She said the majority of health department staff would be one of the first county residents to be vaccinated.
“I’m excited to start doing this and protect people,” Brown said.
According to Agee, side effects that residents may experience with their first vaccination include pain near the injection point, body pain, redness, and swelling.
All vaccinated people at the health center clinic will stay and be monitored for 15 minutes after vaccination and will receive a vaccination card with the date of vaccination.
People who were vaccinated on Monday will be back within 28 days of the second vaccination, Brown said.
Jackson said perhaps two-thirds of EMS staff would be vaccinated. He said some EMS workers would not be vaccinated due to pregnancy or breastfeeding problems.
Health department vaccine doses are stored in onsite refrigerators and freezers.
Vaccine doses take two hours to thaw after being removed from the freezer, Brown said.
After puncturing the dose vial, the vaccine must be administered within 6 hours and cannot be returned to refrigeration.
According to Brown, when the vaccine dose is thawed from the freezer in the refrigerator, the health department needs to use it for 30 days.
Health department clinics have alarm systems in both the freezer and refrigerator to monitor temperature and ensure that there are no malfunctions that could destroy the COVID-19 vaccine or other storage location.
“We are prepared for that kind of thing,” Brown said.
The high number of cases continues as the county begins deploying the COVID-19 vaccine.
On Wednesday, the Ohio Department of Health reported 27 new positive cases in Sandusky County since Tuesday, with one new dead.
Over the past two weeks, the county has had 563 cases, or 962.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The county has recorded a total of 3,220 cases with 52 deaths since the onset of the pandemic.
