Nearly 59K are vaccinated against coronavirus in Michigan
According to data from the Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan gave 58,997 residents the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine during the first two weeks of availability.
With over 278,000 doses of the two coronavirus vaccines distributed to providers throughout the state, we still have another 219,278 dose to be given in the coming weeks.

Both vaccines use mRNA to obtain cells from the body and produce proteins that induce antibody production to protect us from COVID-19 infection.

In a study of thousands of volunteers, both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were approximately 95% effective after two doses at weekly intervals. The Pfizer vaccine is given every 3 weeks and the modelnashot is given every 4 weeks.
Both vaccines were granted an emergency use authorization by the FDA for adults earlier this month. Further research is needed before the FDA and CDC recommend it for children.
Michigan has 486 providers registered as COVID-19 vaccination sites in 83 counties of the state. So far, the distribution was highest in Auckland, Kent and Washtenau counties. Only Keweenaw County does not report a single vaccination.
On Monday, the health department reported a two-day total 3,239 new coronavirus cases 60 new deaths were made on Sunday and Monday. In the state, new cases and deaths, and hospitalization and positive testing rates have declined in recent weeks.
