“This nationally mobilized effort will begin (Monday) at 486 skilled care and living support facilities in Iowa and will reach an estimated 49,836 people,” a CVS spokeswoman wrote.
The retail chain added that the company expects to complete vaccinations for long-term care facilities in about three months.
A state public health spokeswoman said the state plans to begin publishing daily totals of vaccinated Iowa sometime after Friday, January 1.
The arrival of the vaccine this week was a reassuring moment for many of the staff who have been watching the pandemic with anxiety and sometimes vigilance.
“We’ve been scared every day since all this started,” said Sarah Nearly, an Orcnor social worker.
