An additional 54 Minnesota died of COVID-19

Minnesota reported that on Saturday, January 2, 2,543 people were COVID-19 positive and 54 died in Minnesota.

Saturday figures are from data analyzed on Thursday, December 31st. The Minnesota Ministry of Health did not update the data on Friday, January 1st, in compliance with New Year’s Day. Sunday data includes two days of death and new cases to supplement the holidays.

Approximately 40% of new cases were recorded in Minnesota, outside the metropolis of 11 counties, as well as approximately 44% of newly reported deaths.

The youngest deaths reported on Saturday were residents of Hennepin County in their late 40s and St. Louis County in their early 50s. Nine were in their 60s. The rest were at least 70 years old. Of the 54 recent deaths, 33 lived in long-term care facilities or care facilities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 5,300 Minnesota have died of COVID-19 and its complications.

Olmsted County recorded an additional 109 COVID-19 infections, St. Louis County recorded 87, and Stearns County recorded 75.

The number of completed diagnostic tests increased by more than 41,600, bringing the state’s daily test positive rate to 6.1%. The daily test positive rate is the rate at which newly completed tests return positive. Public health officials consider more than 5% to be a sign of widespread community infection.
