Florida health officials and lawmakers provided new details on Saturday on how the new COVID-19 strain was discovered on New Year’s Eve in Martin County, on the east coast of Florida north of Palm Beach County. ..

A source at the press conference said the newly approved vaccine would work well for the new COVID strain.
Governor Ron DeSantis has not made public comments at a press conference related to the new stock so far.
A group at the press conference also focused on vaccine distribution, and authorities were anxious to take shots for those on the waiting list.
As of Saturday, the Florida Department of Health reported that 243,107 vaccines had been administered. Of the total, 66,835 were given to Floridians aged 65 and over — promoted by the Desantis administration.
However, with about 4.5 million people over the age of 65 living in Florida and currently limited vaccination supplies, it is not clear when everyone, not to mention those under the age of 65, will be vaccinated. ..
