Patterson vaccination site will be closed after lack of Covid-19 vaccine
After the Covid-19 vaccine was exhausted, the international high school mass vaccination site was closed on Monday morning.
Signs posted on sites, including digital signs, tell people to come back for their shots on Wednesday.
Mayor Andre Saye said the city was forced to shut down the site due to a lack of vaccines. He called a New Jersey health commissioner on Saturday and said the city had warned her of a lack of vaccine.
“We knew we were running out on Saturday because of the long lines,” Saiegh said. Police officers and firefighters throughout New Jersey are getting vaccines on Paterson’s site. He said he followed up with the health commissioner on Monday morning.
“We had 110 doses left and were completed by 10:30 am,” added Paul Persaud, a health officer in charge of the vaccination site. “Our on-demand vaccination program is working well. Hopefully we will resume vaccination on Wednesday.”
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New Jersey has been vaccinated with 572,250 Covid-19 vaccines. According to the New Jersey Department of Health, the first dose was 199,293 and the second was 14,984, for a total of 214,433 vaccines.
Nancy Kearny, a spokeswoman for the New Jersey Department of Health, said: “Allocations are made weekly and are usually picked up at the destination between Monday and Wednesday. This week’s Patterson allocation is coming.”
Sayegh said the allocation could be the cause.
“What I said is that the vaccine has been very successful. They feel they should be reassigned to us more,” Saiegh said.
Paterson has received 1,600 Moderna vaccines in batches since December 28th. All of them were administered.
Perseau says he doesn’t want to keep the vaccine on the refrigerator shelves while the pandemic intensifies.
Patterson requested 4,000 doses, but this week he could take half of them.
Sayegh said the site will reopen after receiving the vaccine shipment.
