Orange County, CA — As cases and hospitalizations for coronavirus increase, Orange County officials have noted the protection of residents aged 65 and over. An additional 31 COVID-19 deaths were reported on Wednesday, with 3,847 residents positive for coronavirus, despite authorities opening the county’s first vaccination supersite at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. ..

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 707 skilled care facility residents have died from the coronavirus and 242 supported living facility residents have died. The death toll is now 2,179 since the pandemic struck our area in March. Of the deaths reported on Wednesday, six were residents of a skilled long-term care facility and six were residents of a life support facility.

After investigating 13 hospitals in Orange County, Dr. Clayton Chau, Chief Health Officer and HCA Director of the County, said authorities learned that 54% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients were 61 years of age or older. Of the patients admitted to the intensive care unit, 71% are 61 years or older. Nearly 72% of people in the ICU use ventilators and are over 61 years old.

“If we don’t stop this, it will continue,” Chau said, with a high proportion of older people suffering from the coronavirus.

“75 percent of those who die in Orange County are older than 65,” Chau said. “Sorry, we need to do something quickly in the community. This is not just about resuming the economy, it’s about taking care of vulnerable communities. Our seniors Dying, and we need to do everything we can to stop it. “

According to Chau, county officials have moved older people over the age of 65 to the forefront of vaccines.

On Wednesday, the number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus dropped to 2,180 on Wednesday. The number of patients in the intensive care unit increased from 535 on Tuesday to 544 on Wednesday, slightly below Sunday’s record of 547.

“Staffing is becoming an increasingly important issue,” Orange County supervisor Lisa Bartlett said of the hospital. County officials have petitioned the state to increase the number of nurses and doctors staffing hospital beds.

Since Sunday, the county has reported 138 deaths. Last week, the county reported 140 deaths. According to OCHCA, the number of tests reported on Tuesday was 16,401, with a cumulative total increased to 2,300,064.

Adjusted daily case rates per 100,000 people in Orange County (announced on Tuesday) increased from 67.8 a week ago to 78.8.

The positive rate increased from 17.1% to 19.5%.

Defined as two more cases in the last two weeks, outbreaks have plagued skilled care facilities and elderly support living facilities for months. As of Wednesday, 37 skilled care facilities have occurred and 46 care facilities are addressing the outbreak.

The average time to unload a patient from an ambulance is 45 minutes and 26 seconds, 90% of the time.

The Fairview Developmental Center houses 12 patients with Orange County Coronavirus and 6 patients from Los Angeles County.

Adjusted ICU bed availability in the county state remained zero, with unadjusted figures increasing from 6.4 percent on Tuesday to 6.9 percent. The state has created a metric tailored to reflect the differences in beds available to COVID-19 and non-coronavirus patients.

The county’s health inequal quartile positive rate, which measures cases in poor areas with high county influence, rose from 23.4% last week to 24.2%.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Orange County’s supervisory board voted 3-1 in favor of hiring an Idea Hall spokeswoman to help authorities convince residents, especially poor areas, of vaccination wisdom. .. Authorities are concerned about opposition to vaccines that affect their ability to reach herd immunity.

Supervisor Don Wagner voted against the deal, insisting that he would wait for a detailed budget for the campaign. He also claimed that a county spokesman could work without additional money.

However, Orange County supervisor Lisa Bartlett said she didn’t want to wait any longer, arguing that county officials were already thin and needed additional help. Frank Kim, CEO of Chau and Orange County, repeated that feeling.

Bartlett also said the county has a track record of working on the “Be Well” campaign, so it’s safe to join Idea Hall.

The county has also reached an agreement to set up another supersite for vaccines at Knott’s Berry Farm, said supervisor Doug Chafy, who was voted vice chairman on Tuesday. Authorities are also working on setting up a vaccination supersite in Orange County Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa, Chafy said.

Ultimately, the county aims to have five regional supersites.

“We don’t have enough vaccine to open another vaccine,” Chaffee said about opening a second supersite. “We can’t release much until we have the required amount of vaccine.”

Authorities held a press conference on Wednesday and opened a vaccine distribution site in Disneyland.

In addition to Disneyland’s loyalty point center, there are multiple mobile sites operating throughout the county, and authorities are currently working on vaccination of the elderly in skilled care and living support facilities.

According to Kim, the vaccine was shipped again on Monday and the county holds 40,000 doses of vaccine. According to Chau, the county plans to administer an additional 35,000 doses next week.

According to Chafy, county officials are also looking for volunteers to help with services ranging from traffic control to computer registration.Volunteers can register at Volunteer.oneoc.org..

Sheriff officials reported an increase in the number of prisoners in Orange County Prison infected with the coronavirus from 274 on Tuesday to 275 on Wednesday. Authorities are waiting for the results of 676 tests, with five to three prisoners hospitalized on Tuesday.

In the Southern California region, ICU availability is zero.

The county has 35% ventilators.
