NC woman did not leave home for more than three weeks—but she still contracted COVID-19
One woman in North Carolina did not leave the country for more than three weeks in a coronavirus pandemic—anyway, she was infected with a highly contagious virus.
Rachel Blumart, who lives in Charlotte, imposed strict quarantine measures on herself, including living elsewhere in her home away from her husband. Such measures were necessary for Blummert because she has an autoimmune disease that is much more vulnerable to COVID-19 than the average adult.
Except for a trip to a pharmacy, Blumart did not leave home for nearly a month, but nonetheless could not stop her from transmitting the deadly virus.
“I really thought I was doing everything right,” Blumart said. Told WCNC-TV. “I am absolutely scared.”
So how did she get infected? During the quarantine, Blumart stated that he had contact only with one other person, an elderly woman who offered to bring groceries into the house at Blumart’s doorstep.
According to Blumart, she did not even touch women. “I could hardly get in touch,” she said.
Unfortunately, the woman later tested positive for COVID-19, according to the WCNC. And so did Blumart when she began showing overt symptoms of the virus, including cough, fever, headache, and dyspnea.
Regardless of the source of her case, Blumart knows that her diagnosis is another reminder that COVID-19 is readily available and often difficult to track.
“This is the most sick I have ever experienced and the scariest I have ever experienced,” she said. “That’s terrible from hearing about ventilators. I really want to be able to wait for this at home.”
